Day 21/7 - Florence to Rome, Italy

Once again, our drive wasn’t too long to Rome! We were there by about 1 PM and we went straight to the Colosseum. We took the metro to get there, and you literally walk out the metro station and there it is. We found our friends and went in. It was incredible. It is so big and it’s so neat to think how the Romans built this forever ago! And it’s amazing to see how much of it is still standing. My back was acting up again this day, and so I wasn’t in a super happy mood, and it was really hot! But we hung out there for about 2 hours and it was really neat to be there. After that, we were all in a lazy mood so we decided we’d be real tourists and take an open bus tour (not a hop on hop off one though). So we go up to the top and it was great to just be able to sit and relax and enjoy Rome. We saw a lot of places we never would have seen if we had been just walking around. After the tour we went and found us dinner, and then the metro was going to be closing at 9, so we needed to be back on the train by then, so home it was for us. So to get back to our hotel, we had to take the metro to a certain station, and then get off and take the bus back to our hotel. So we get to the stop, and I knew where the bus had dropped us off, but to go the other direction we had to find where the bus stop was, which wasn’t easy. 15 minutes later, we were on a bus, hoping it was the right one, and while we knew which stop to get off at, the bus wasn’t telling what stops were coming up, nor was our stop on the bus stop signs….so we just kept looking for our hotel, and thankfully it had a bright yellow sign on the top of it.

  1. How fun to take a tour on the top of a double decker bus. I've always wanted to do that. Very cool.
